Do you feel like a superhero? I promise, you are. And your music studio has a superpower – you just might not have uncovered it yet.
Finding your music studio’s superpower is the key to successful marketing. It will help you find your ideal clients, communicate effectively and achieve your goals.
Find Your Superpower
So what is this superpower I keep referring to?
Your superpower is the thing that makes you stand out, whatever makes you different from the crowd. To find your music studio’s superpower, start by asking yourself these questions:
- What aspect of music teaching are you particularly passionate about?
- Which lessons fill you with joy?
- Are there certain students who energise you? Are there other students who drain you?
- What is your mission as a music teacher? How does this show up in the way you teach?
Have a brainstorming session and map out the answers to these questions in order to get to the root of your studio’s superpower. It could be some aspect of your teaching curriculum, like using improvisation or gamification to teach concepts. It might be more to do with your style as a teacher, such as an ability to connect with stand-offish teens or nervous adults.
Only you can unearth what makes your studio unique.
What if you don’t have a superpower?
Maybe you are just running a run of the mill studio right now. Perhaps you’re teaching how you were taught and everything is pretty traditional.
That doesn’t mean you don’t have a superpower. It just means it’s buried a little deeper and hasn’t been activated yet.
If this is you, start by writing down why you want to change. What do you want for your students or yourself that they or you aren’t getting from lessons right now?
Once you have your ‘why’, it’s all about trial and error. Start testing out ideas and gradually you’ll hone in on your point of difference as a teacher. Just be patient with yourself and take it one new idea at a time.
Show Off Your Superpower
When you know what your superpower is, you need to show it off.
Make a list of all your marketing and communications – anywhere and everywhere that the public sees your studio:
- Website
- Facebook page
- Flyers and posters
- Emails
- Texts
- Studio space
Go through each one with a fine-toothed comb and ask yourself whether it reflects your superpower. Everywhere that anyone (including current students) sees your studio represented it should be clear what type of teacher you are and what you stand for.
