Surprise Your Piano Students with a Practice Bingo Week

From time to time, students get into a bit of a practice rut. It’s not that they’re not practising, but sometimes the day-to-day and week-to-week can start to become a slog. And we can see it in their faces, and how much they’re actually achieving during that practice time.

When this starts to happen for your students, it’s time to mix things up.

Practice Bingo can help with that. This fun sheet can provide your students with a change of pace, and make practice seem fresh and exciting again.

Hopefully, the variety will also carry through to after your Practice Bingo week is over. The more varied your students’ practice is, the more awake they will be during that time.

Practice Bingo for Break Weeks

My students have a two-week break right now, which is a perfect opportunity for a practice challenge like this. Having different ideas and tasks, in a fun format, means they’re more likely to do some practice over their break.

If you’re challenging your students to get “bingo”, you might want to provide a little incentive for them to do so. I prefer not to offer physical prizes in my studio, but I do like to give fun rewards that are also beneficial, such as:

• Student-led lessons: Let them pick what the lesson structure/order is for that lesson.
• Games only lesson: What kiddo wouldn’t want an entire lesson of games, games, games!
• Extra Piano Maestro time: If students don’t have an iPad at home, or take a longer overlapping lesson format, they don’t get a lot of time to really explore this wonderful app. This is a great opportunity to give them 10 minutes of lesson time just to have some sight-reading fun.

Of course, you don’t have to offer a prize like this at all. But it might be the cherry on top that means your student stays at the piano for an extra half an hour that week. 🙂
