You know the feeling.

You’re running around like an adorable but frantic little bunny. You answer emails, correct a technique issue, place an order for music books and adjust a few invoices

By the end of the day you feel like you’ve done SO much. But at the same time, nothing has actually been done.

The Slippery Slope of Productivity

So you look up a productivity hack: The latest and greatest seems to be productivity technology. It’s awesome. It’s revolutionary.

And for a while it even works! You feel like a space pilot as you fly through your to-do list at warp speed.

Nothing can stop you now. This is it.

Until it isn’t.

After a few weeks the to-do list starts to get a little longer again. No problem, you think, having every faith in your new productivity superpowers.

But it keeps happening. You get things back to rights on Monday only to find them off-kilter again on Wednesday. By Friday they’re sort of under control but then they pile up again over the weekend.

You’ve just met the slippery slope of productivity.

Solving the Productivity Problem

The problem you’ll encounter when you try to do all the things is that there will always be more things.

There’s always a new teaching technique to try or a new student to take on or a way to do things better (which also happens to require more work from you).

You will never feel more productive if you don’t set a ceiling.

That’s why I make Vibrant Music Teaching members set an objective for each experiment in the Productivity Power-Up. If you don’t set an objective, you’re never going to feel efficient, productive or successful.

And feeling it is the most important part.

Productivity Power-Up is just one out of hundreds of step-by-step courses and other resources designed exclusively for teachers who join the Vibrant Music Teaching membership program. Stop searching for the perfect game, or scouring pinterest for how to teach intervals…the VMT library has done the work for you. Becoming a Vibrant Music Teaching member is one of the most productive things you can do for your teaching!

Define “All the Things” for You

The next time you have an inkling to become a more productive teacher – start by defining what that would look like. Decide what you would need to get done in a week to feel successful, then work out a way to get there.

That way when you get to your destination, you’ll know you’ve arrived.
