I love the finger warmups included as part of the Wunderkeys program. These little rhymes and actions are so fun, and a fantastic way to develop finger dexterity.
I work with a lot of 3-5 year old beginners. This is a very different thing from teaching older students in so many ways – and one of the differences is that their hands are a lot less developed.
I’ve created a sheet with all the finger rhymes with little illustrations so that my students can pick which ones we do.
We normally add two new rhymes each week until we have the complete set, and I simply highlight the titles as we go so we can keep track.
Definitely check out the Wunderkeys books if you teach young students. They won’t suit every kiddo but when they do they can be wonderful.
What are quick clips?
Colourful Keys Quick Clips are all about giving you a taste of what my lessons are actually like – in action.
I certainly don’t claim to be an expert, and I don’t have all the answers. I just know how much seeing real teaching with real students has helped me to grow and improve as a teacher.
Let me know what you think!
I hope you had fun watching this Colourful Keys Quick Clip. If you have any thoughts or questions, be sure to ask them in the Vibrant Music Studio Teachers group on Facebook or in the comments here, and do make sure to subscribe to my emails and YouTube channel to get notified when a new quick clip is published.
If you want more and extended clips of my teaching, be sure to check out the Vibrant Music Teaching library. There’s tons more like this as well as a whole library of teaching games to boot.
Hi Nicola,
Great video! Would you be willing to share your illustrated sheet with us? Providing preschoolers with choices helps ensure their happy cooperation, and seeing the fingerplays visually would definitely help with that!
I can’t share the sheet here as it’s not my own. You can find these on the Wunderkeys site though! 🙂
I was thinking the same. Just perfect for my four year student! Thank you.
