Great to see you back for day 2 of the 30 Day Studio Refresh. Day 2 is all about getting some music teaching inspiration to fuel your musical fire.
January can be a tough month to stay excited about teaching.
Christmas is over, our wallets are feeling a little light, and (in most parts of the world) it’s cold and dark outside. It can be hard to maintain our teaching inspiration and motivation at this time of year.
If you’re going to get through this 30 day challenge you need to be energised and inspired. These videos will help you do just that. Give yourself this time to just soak it up and enjoy – there’s lots of hard work ahead. 😉
Teaching Inspiration
One of the most inspiring teachers on YouTube to me is Irina Gorin. She’s the creator of the method ‘Tales of a Musical Journey’ and her teaching style is unique, wonderful and encouraging. In this playlist she shares excerpts from piano lessons with varying levels of piano students.
While you’re at it you might want to also listen to the interview Irina did on Tim Topham’s podcast a while back. Such an interesting life and perspective on teaching.
Playing Inspiration
The fantastic Daniel Barenboim has started a series called “5 minutes on…”. In these videos he gives some of his thoughts on a popular piece from the repertoire. The selections are great and his comments are fascinating.
Not a Barenboim fan? Look up your own favourite musician on YouTube. You’ll be surprised at the gems you can find on there.
Musical Inspiration
Sometimes it’s easy to forget why we ended up teaching music in the first place. You love music right? And you want to share that joy with others, right?
Remind yourself why you fell in love with some of these thought provoking and beautiful TED Talks.
What’s your teaching inspiration?
Share your favourite way to get inspired in the comments below, or over in the Vibrant Music Studio Teachers Facebook group. I’m excited to see what helps you get fired up for music teaching.

Andras Schiff’s masterclasses on Beethoven’s piano sonatas were so beneficial during TAOPP Beethoven playalong the entirety of Dec + Jan 1st.
Oh cool, thanks for the tip Sarah. 🙂
It really is so important to stay inspired as a teacher, a musician, and just as a person. I always notice that if I haven’t been feeding my soul enough, I do not feel as motivated to practice or as vibrant as a teacher. The part in the TED Talk about looking at my role in making the light shine in someone else’s eye really stood out to me. Thank you for sharing these videos, Nicola! I am very glad I got to take this look at how I am keeping myself musically nourished and inspired.
