30DSR Day 9: Publicise and Celebrate a Student Success Story

Do you know you should be marketing to the students you already have? It’s easy for students and their parents to forget how much value you provide to them. And when they can’t see the value, they might just quit.

Sharing student successes

Publicise student success in your studio

Sometimes parents just can’t see what students are achieving in your studio. When you celebrate a student success story, all the great work you do becomes more visible.

A student success story could be anything. You could celebrate a student…

  • Finishing a method book.
  • Passing an exam.
  • Playing hands together for the first time.
  • Completing their first Beethoven piece.
  • Playing the piece that inspired them to start learning
  • Completing all their major scales.
  • Improvising solo for the first time.
  • Playing a piece from memory.

Learning to play a musical instrument is a long journey. There are many, many challenges along the way. But there are also tons of these little triumphs too.

You just need to have your radar finely tuned to pick up on them. 😉

Non-musical parents especially don’t know what to celebrate. While it’s easy to know when to cheer for your child at a football game, musical progress is often invisible. If you prompt them they’ll be more than happy to celebrate, boast about and revel in their child’s success.

Action Steps

  • Think back to a student success story that happened recently, or make a note of a student success that happens this week.
  • Take a photo to show the student success story if you have permission.
  • Publicise the student success story on your Facebook page, in a piano parent email newsletter, or any other way you communicate in your studio.

Share your student success story with us too!

Once you’ve posted/emailed/printed your chosen student success story, head over the Vibrant Music Studio Teachers group on Facebook and share it there too.

Get creative with the success story you choose, I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  1. Because even the students don’t realize their own accomplishments, i created achievement postcards that are awarded almost every month. From learning piano key letter names and musical symbols to composing and knowing scales. Even hand technique goals are recognized. The students keep their achievement cards in plastic photo protectors for parents to see. The collection of cards is a visual reminder of the students’ progress.
